Lagos is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The Nigerian cuisine is excellent, especially the pepper soup, which is quite spicy--so much so that my Ghanaian friend couldn't finish it. The service is great, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. If you enjoy African cuisine, I highly recommend this place.

UPDATE: I'm here AGAIN and the service was still bomb and the food was still great!! Our waitress was very nice and helpful. She had great conversation and made sure we were cool. This time we went for brunch. Tried new drinks and banana french toast. YUM. I do wish the bread was thicker for the french toast but the flavor was there. No syrup needed!

A promotion in our Playbill offering a free Frose, Glass of Wine, or Cocktail with proof of attending a theater show was the reason we checked out the restaurant. It has also been quite a while since I had eaten Nigerian food and was curious to see how good the food would be. We all had the Ikoyi Frose which tasted good. I had Jollof Rice with Chicken and Sweet Plantains. Another person in the party had the Lagos Fried Rice. Both dishes were flavorful and had a spicy kick to them. The Jollof Rice was good although drier than Jollof Rice I have had in the past. Our server took care of us. The ambiance was very relaxing. They had great music playing. It was very busy but we never felt rushed for the table.

I visited Lagos NYC in Times Square on a Friday night and had a pretty good experience overall. The music was lit and set the time for the evening!! Our server was cool and attentive. We started off with the calamari which was delicious. So much flavor, I'm still thinking about it. For my main entree, I ordered the salmon with jollof rice. The jollof rice was absolutely delicious--full of flavor and cooked perfectly. However, I felt the salmon was a bit bland which was so surprising to me since all my other dishes were so flavorful. All in all, Lagos NYC is a great spot id you're looking for a good vibe. I'd definitely go back for the jollof rice!

Jollof rice very memorable and worth the visit. Can get very crowded and busy so reservations recommended. Two levels. First level more calm and second level a more lively atmosphere but music is very loud so will not likely be able to talk to your table mates if sitting upstairs when DJ is playing. Food full of good flavor. For non meat eaters-the seafood options are also delish.

Arrived early for our reservation. Kinda on purpose because we wanted to experience those dancers I saw in reviews. Sadly they weren't there at that time. Tip: the dancers come on later. Much later. IDs are checked at the door by a polite Bouncer followed by an equally pleasant Host who invited us to sit and wait at their downstairs bar. I had a nice time making new friends. In case they read this review, S/O to new pals Rick and Brooklyn Tee for keeping me company. There are tables against the wall parallel to this bar but it isn't private so I was happy when our table was ready and the Host ushered us upstairs. Nb, we were told the Host would alert us when our table was ready but after a while I checked and it was indeed ready, even though it didn't appear she was making any moves to let us know. There's a second bar upstairs and I noticed another flight of stairs leading to a third dinning area. The DJ was upstairs as well. Yo! The DJ and his Mic lady deserves a separate note to themselves! They played popular tunes from many genres but I was super happy to hear some current Soca Music! Of course they spun the hottest Afro beats. We were at LAGOS after all. And apparently they were gearing up for Nigerian artist Davido's (who was in town) after party. HUGE S/O to DJ Gregory Wilson! If there was nothing else I'd be back just for them! Sidenote, as it got later the music got louder and the vibe sweeter. Jollof Rice! Man I've been dying to try JR! It was sort of anticlimactic. Don't get me wrong, it tasted nice. But after all the tales I've heard of it, I expected something more. It tasted like a style many folks in the Caribbean make when they want something different. Similar cultural backgrounds and all. Maybe I should have the experience of eating it at a Nigerian's HOME? ION, I wasn't completely bowled over. We tried the Lagos Salad, Asun (smoked goat in scotch bonnet and habanero) not a fan of spicy, not even black pepper but, I HAD to at least try. It tasted great and burnt like shxt! I'm not doing it again haha. We also got sides of ham fries and sweet plantain. Everything tasted good. But, I won't run back for the food. I'll be back for the vibe. Great decor and vibe. Very attentive Manager and no one was hovering. Tables all around us seemed to be having a good time too. Dress code was mixed. We and others were casual but I saw some red carpet ensembles. Lagos is a solid 3.5 stars in my book. The End.
